Oscar – Sometimes Video

Really loving the Wes Anderson vibes in the video for Sometimes by Oscar.

Shot in various locations in and around Los Angeles, the video finds Oscar on a fantastic journey through small town America, taking in a plethora of sights and sounds. Oscar’s energetic performance is matched perfectly by the weird and wonderful rag-tag bunch of people he meets along the way – including (in no particular order) a teenage vape club, a lawn bowling club and even a singles square dance team!

Rexy – Running Out Of Time

Very excited to announce our first ever reissue from London duo Rexy, and their debut album Running Out Of Time (ROOT), in conjunction with Samantha Urbani (of Friends) new URU label. Originally released in 1981 and long since out of print, the LP has become a coveted find for fans of leftfield pop, and through the rewards of its wry, forward-looking song-craft, has been championed by the likes of current artists such as Ariel Pink, Joey Negro, Connan Mockasin and MGMT.   More information on the release here.

You can listen to ‘Alien’ from ROOT over on Pitchfork who premiered it recently along with a cover of the original from Samantha!   Plus, you must go and read this fantastic  i-D feature on Rexy, featuring a cover of the album title track from Connan Mockasin. This is a very special record. Pre-order the album from Rough Trade, ourselves, Piccadilly or iTunes

Our Mother – Surprise Machine

We are very excited to introduce you to Our Mother a Tottenham-based four-piece consisting of John Hartley, Paul Kowalewski, Liam Garrett and Joseph Charlton.

We will be releasing their debut ‘A.O.B’ EP, on April 29th, 2016. Super limited to just 300 copies worldwide, pressed on Heavyweight vinyl with a free download code – it can be pre-ordered here.

The first track to be taken from the EP is “Surprise Machine”, a Wurlitzer ride of a track, hurling the listener headfirst into their idiosyncratic world.  What initially begins as a brooding and subtle late night jam quickly explodes into an addictive chorus augmented with a flurrying, waltzing trumpet. Hartley’s pitch-shifted vocals singing ambiguous yet sinister-leaning lyrics that become an instrument in themselves – another cog operating in Our Mother’s complex and fascinating machine. The band themselves describe the track as “a techno-pop song made of indiscernible instrumentation. Eno ambience, myriad horns and digital horsepower work as axles and pistons to power a vehicle of both repetition and unexpectedness.

Oscar – Cut and Paste

The highly anticipated debut album from our favourite North London indie crooner Oscar is slated for release this May 13th on the ever-excellent Wichita Recordings. It’s called ‘Cut and Paste’ and is available to pre-order physically here and digitally here.   He has also shared his new single – the album opener and live favourite, “Sometimes”, a track which cracks and fizzes with livewire indie-pop energy; all crunching guitars and infectious synth lines, making for an undeniable gem of an earworm.

You can also listen to ‘Sometimes’ (via Soundcloud) here and (via Spotify) here.
