HMLTD – Album Announce, West is Dead video

Following their recent return with the explosive recent single ‘LOADED’, HMLTD today announce news of the upcoming release of their long-awaited debut album, West of Eden, due for release on 7th February 2020. You can pre-order and pre-save HERE.

The expansive, labyrinthine debut has been several years in the making; a daring collection of songs created to incite conversation about proposed new visions of masculinity, the decadence of western capitalism and the violence of insecurity and repression. Across its 15 tracks, the band’s artistic vision is realised in full technicolour, with all shades of their sonic palette used to create an album that is equal parts lush and abrasive.

Alongside today’s announcement, HMLTD share the video for brand new single and album opener ‘The West Is Dead’, a dizzying rally call brought to life with the fuzz of a driving bassline, pulsing electronics and Spychalski’s sick croon. Its accompanying haunting visuals envisions a near-future Europe, plunged back into feudalism after total social and ecological collapse. Shot by Niall Trask, it continues the band’s run of thought provoking yet beautiful videos,

Of the track, Spychalski explains: “this is not dystopia, but a mirror up to late capitalism; where we are and where we’re headed. Sick dolphins lap at the tide, the insects have all dropped from the skies and the global economy enters free fall. Ecological catastrophe guaranteed. The West is dead. Atomised, alienated and apathetic”

Nardeydey – Dreamin & EP Announce

Nardeydey - Dreamin

When Nardeydey, AKA Shirley Tetteh, released her first solo singles “Speedial” and “FreeFalling” at the tail end of 2018 and start of 2019, we were watching in real time the emergence of a singular and complex songwriter-artist from a musician that was already a guitarist of renown in London’s new jazz scene.

Playing in fast-rising collective Nérija (Domino), spiritual jazz ensemble Maisha (Brownswood), and also in the Mercury Music Prize 2019 nominated Seed Ensemble, Shirley opened up to reveal her deeply personal and remarkable songwriting, processing her inner life with dream-logic tapestries, pulling together myriad influences from folk, pop, jazz, soul, gospel, electro-pop, afrobeats and beyond. All written and self-produced, the tracks are deeply original, wearing her guitar virtuosity lightly in creating inexplicably perfect trans-genre pop songs.

Today Nardeydey is announcing that her debut eponymous EP will be released digitally and as a Rough Trade exclusive 12” vinyl at the end of November. She also shares new single and EP track, ‘Dreamin’, a luscious track dotted with found sound sample texture & a revolving cascade of chords, discloses new facets of her vision with each track.

HMLTD – LOADED

We’re thrilled to now be working with the incendiary London based five-piece HMLTD, who have shared ‘LOADED’, their first new music of 2019, alongside an official video directed by Mood Killer, watch the video below and buy or stream the track here.

Of the track and its accompanying visuals, the band say: “’Loaded’ is a song about a Faustian bargain, inspired by real events of which we were very much a part. Satan found our souls to be faulty and has been fully refunded. ‘Loaded’ is a story of self-deprecation, self-aggrandisement, and self-commodification. It is a self-help book to recovering from all of the above. ‘Loaded’ is a song about material wealth and spiritual poverty; the depths of which we have ploughed and plundered til penniless in both pound and principle. We have scraped the barrel of our hollow, piggy bank soul husks to bring it into this world. We did it for you, but mainly for us.

Catch them on their UK tour this October, including a special show at London’s XOYO. Tickets here.

Ivey – Talk Talk / Bodies

Ivey are a five-piece band from the Australian Gold Coast, and we’re delighted to be releasing “Talk Talk / Bodies“, their latest double A-side single. Watch the Mickey Mason directed video for “Talk Talk” below, and stream both tracks here.

Ivey - Talk Talk (Official Video)

The band say that ‘“Talk Talk” is about the moment of realisation as you enter into a new relationship. The excitement and the caution, the fascination and the comparison. The song reflects on personal experience and moments in our lives that were filled with these kinds of feelings.

Their sound is unashamedly pop, with a powerful youthful exuberance, that hits on the sound of timeless AM radio from the late ‘70s and early ‘80s combined with a distinctly contemporary French touch.

The band formed in 2014 by brothers Lachlan (Guitar/Vocals) and Matt McGuffie (Drums) along with lead vocalist and childhood friend Millie Perks, who was just 14 years old at the time. The band have hustled their way from then to now; playing DIY shows and sharing music online, gaining the attention of Kitsune, who released their track “Won’t Be” in 2018, to being championed by Triple J radio in Australia.

Jay Som – Nighttime Drive video

LA-based Jay Som – aka Melina Duterte – will release her second record Anak Ko later this month – which you can pre-order NOW. Ahead of release she has shared brand new single “Nighttime Drive”, a restless road song, but one with a sense of contentedness and composure, which “basically encapsulated my entire life for the past two years,” explains Duterte—always moving, but “accepting it, being a little stronger from it.” She sings, memorably, of “shoplifting at the Whole Foods.” Duterte focused more on bass this time, “I just wanted to make a more groovy record”.

You can watch the comical, paranormal video above, which director Han Hale describes as “a homage to the song’s namesake; the song is about being a band on the road and the comradery involved.” Melina adds, “I feel like Han’s style and vision for the video worked so well with the track and what it means to me, kind of a freaky juxtaposition – especially the added layer of alien activity.” Check out the video where Melina-fast asleep in the van en route to a gig-dreams that her and her bandmates go full-on X-Files and have an alien encounter.

Jay Som just performed at Pitchfork Festival and Fujirock in Japan, and now she’s preparing to bring Anak Ko on the road for a massive international tour with a visit to the UK in November. All dates are on-sale now – find a show near you and get tickets HERE.
