Momma – Lucky

Momma - Lucky (Music Video)

Brooklyn’s Momma, led by dual vocalists/guitarists Etta Friedman and Allegra Weingarten, today share “Lucky”, the latest shimmering single from their much-anticipated new album Household Name due out on July 1st. The new single follows a busy couple of months for the band that has seen them tour with Wet Leg in the US and perform their first headlining shows in the UK, including a sold-out show at The Windmill in London, and fill a string of packed rooms across Brighton for The Great Escape.

“Lucky” is out now alongside a video directed by Emma Penrose & Zack Shorrosh, Friedman, who helms lead vocals on “Lucky,” explains, “I wrote it after my significant other and I had to spend an unknown amount of time apart from each other on opposite sides of the country. I wanted it to feel anthemic, like a sappy and sentimental love song, but I still wanted to speak on how exciting it feels to know you found true treasure with someone you are in love with.

We didn’t want to get too cheesy and literal so Etta suggested some ideas from the Green Day ‘Walking Contradiction’ video as well as the fun and etherealness of certain Beabadoobee videos,” explains director Penrose. “In the end, we feel like the video displays how much fun it was to film – everyone involved was a friend of either Zack & Emma’s or Etta & Allegra’s, so the project feels very personal and lighthearted.

Sunflower Bean – Headful of Sugar + In Flight

New York trio Sunflower Bean release their long-awaited new album, Headful of Sugar, today! A psychedelic headrush designed to be played loud with the windows down, it follows the band navigating the agony and ecstasy of contemporary American life. “Tomorrow is not promised, no tour is promised, no popularity is promised, no health or money is promised,” bassist/vocalist Julia Cumming says. “Why not make what you want to make on your own terms? Why not make a record that makes you want to dance? Why not make a record that makes you want to scream?” Headful of Sugar was produced and mixed by UMO’s Jacob Portrait, and co-engineered by the band’s own drummer Olive Faber and Portrait.

To celebrate the release, the band also share new single “In Flight”. On the track and video vocalist / guitarist Nick Kivlen says, “This song is a romantic vision of meeting a lover, running away together, and entering a dangerous new world. It’s less safe but also less suffocating. The video follows me through a series of twilight zone-style mishaps as I search to be seen or understood. Things only improve when I finally find like-minded people. Is it a dream? Is it the multiverse? It’s for the viewer to decide.

Momma – Household Name + Speeding 72

Momma, the band led by singers/guitarists Allegra Weingarten and Etta Friedman, have announced Household Name, their anticipated new album, will be released on July 1st, 2022.

Fresh off a series of dates with Wet Leg, the band’s new full-length Household Name reveals an exciting new chapter marked by both personal and artistic growth. The duo upgraded from GarageBand and took their time writing and recording in a proper studio alongside multi-instrumentalist/producer Aron Kobayashi Ritch. The resulting album is a tightly stitched collection that is magnetic and dynamic. In chasing their idols and embracing personal storytelling, the band has skill-fully carved out their own path. Household Name showcases an unfettered vulnerability elevated by serious alt-rock bombast and is an album that tells the world: This is Momma.

Household Name perfects a balance of heavy riffs, deep emotions, inviting sonic production, and a light-hearted, wry sense of humour, creating a singular lane for Momma in today’s world of alt rock. Household Name is now available for pre-order/pre-save NOW.

The album’s fuzzed-out and soaring lead single “Speeding 72″, also released today, details a fast- burning romance between two kids who meet at a show and go for a ride—its chorus referencing Pavement’s “Gold Soundz” with nostalgic admiration. Its Madeline Leshner and Zach Stone-directed, part The Breakfast Club inspired, video perfectly captures the song’s spirit: cruising around in the summer with your friends with no real destination, windows down and blasting music.

‘Speeding 72” is probably the most collaboratively written song on the new record. We wanted it to be the sort of summertime anthem that you can turn on during a drive to impress your crush,” explains the band. “The most important part of the production was setting the right mood to transport the listener. The song starts with Aron getting into his car (which is featured on the album cover), and then turning on the ignition.

After supporting Wet Leg on sold-out West Coast shows last month, the band will shortly commence a much-anticipated UK stint of dates. The band will be headlining London’s Brixton Windmill on Tuesday 10th May and Manchester’s Yes on Saturday 14th May and open for Illuminati Hotties in Leeds on Friday 6th May, as well as performing in Glasgow and Brighton for The Great Escape Festival.

Sunflower Bean – I Don’t Have Control Sometimes

Today New York trio Sunflower Bean band share their latest single “I Don’t Have Control Sometimes”. On the track Cumming revels in a period of recklessness and instability that brought her to the breaking point that made this new album such a force. But there’s no darkness to mine here, “I Don’t Have Control Sometimes” is a jangly, bright pop song reminiscent of The Cure, confident in its refusal to be apologetic. “I don’t care what tomorrow thinks/ Today I’m totally mine,” Cumming sings, her scintillating vocals communicating a witticism and self-awareness that swallows any suffering beneath.

Julia explains, “I’ve always thought that my reckless side was both a gift and a curse, leading me to my best choices on stage but my worst choices in life. I don’t have control sometimes is admission, acceptance, and almost celebration of the parts of yourself that are impulsive or maybe even insane.

Walt Disco – Unlearning + Be An Actor Video

Following Friday’s release of their critically acclaimed debut album Unlearning, Glasgow’s Walt Disco today share the enchanting video for new single “Be An Actor“. The song, about a long-distance romance shared by frontperson James Potter during lockdown, is equal parts hopeful and heartbreaking. “We never met, but spent our conversations daydreaming of what could be, painting pictures of romance, a fantasy that I could run away somewhere and fall in love,” they share. “The verses tell of how we shared in self discovery and lent courage to each other, assuring ourselves that these changes are the start of a hopeful future”.

The video, created by Eric J Liddle and Kasparas Vidunas of Humble Film Productions, features a series of charming, dreamlike sets crafted by miniature artist Chell Young. The band was filmed against green screen backdrops and meticulously inserted into their new tiny, whimsical world. Throughout the video, scale and direction make less and less sense as the world becomes more surreal and unfastened from reality.

Unlearning is out now – buy/listen HERE – and comes hot on the heels of a riotous run at SXSW, with their debut US performances dazzling fans and US critics alike and garnering acclaim from Rolling Stone, Paste, Brooklyn Vegan, Austin Chronicle and more.

The breathtaking debut is steeped in metamorphoses, a stage show in two acts. It covers flings and romances, identities and bodies and change, profound familial love, and – of course – Hollywood glamour. While the themes of the album are universally relatable, Walt Disco’s gift is in the unique experience of discovery and heartbreak between queer people. In Walt Disco’s eyes, it’s never too late to become what you might have been and there are plenty of possibilities to explore on Unlearning.

Reviews are flooding in for the debut album and the band have received high praise from the likes of The Telegraph, Dork, The Line of Best Fit, Clash, DIY, The Skinny and many more:
