Gilligan Moss: Ceremonial EP
For a number of years, Gilligan Moss has been producing left-field house music on the sly; his creative outlet in his native Chicago. Moss began sharing tracks with close friends in 2014 and soon devoted himself to music, producing a stream of gorgeously off-kilter electronic pop that has slowly but surely been accruing a cult following of fans in recent months.
“Ceremonial”, Moss’ vibrantly technicolour debut EP, is the glorious first official release for his music. “Choreograph”, a demo uploaded to soundcloud personally last year, has been re-mixed by Van Rivers (The Knife, Fever Ray) and gets its first official release on new label, AMF Records. A brilliantly adrenalin- inducing breakthrough, the demo version caused a minor flurry on the blogs when Moss leaked it online last year. Interpolating a dizzying array of samples that builds and builds into a seismic flurry of organic-electronic activity, it’s as if Moss has crammed in a dozen songs all at once, seemingly diametric sonic elements rearranged and married to form an unnatural, yet lucid cohesion. The “Ceremonial” EP boasts a brand new version, and shows off Moss’ ability to marry his eclectic palette of psych-rock, synthpop, house and more to seamless yet dazzling effect.
