Sebastien Tellier: La Ritournelle
“I had to pull over to the side of the road & weep when I heard it” So said influential international DJ of style Tom Middleton upon first hearing ‘La Ritournelle’ (the only love song). It’s a track that has been most aptly described by NME as “basically Unfinished Sympathy Pt II”. Having been previously only available on import 12″ vinyl it has remarkably sold over four thousand (4,000) copies in the UK on that format.
It has been championed by tastemakers from Manchester’s ‘Electric Chair’ men The Una Bombers, to Radio 1’s night-time specialists Rob Da Bank, Pete Tong, who made it an “Essential New Tune” and Gilles Peterson, whose listeners voted it number four (4) in his 2004 Worldwide All Winners cuts of the year.
‘La Ritournelle’ is still the most beautiful track you will hear all year…don’t believe us; just ask Jo Whiley who has already leant her support to the mighty cause. Alongside the original, you will find a super respectful and dynamic reworking/edit courtesy of Mr.Dan (responsible for Kylie’s shimmering ‘Slow’) and new mixes from Metronomy, Jim Noir and our very own Jake Bullit.
‘La Ritournelle’ will be released as a lead single from the album ‘Politics’ in September of this year in a bid to satiate the almost drug-like demand that has developed with the track. In the meantime the album itself provides cinematic, symphonic, uncompromising & uplifting support more than sufficient to prevent any chance of an epidemic of ‘cold turkey!’
Lyrics: La Ritournelle (the only love song)
Oh nothing’s going to change my love for you
I wanna spend my life with you
So we make love on the grass under the moon
No one call tell, damned if I do
Forever journey on golden avenues
I drift in your eyes since I love you
I got that beat in my veins for only rule
Love is to share, mine is for you
